Welcome to Woodlawn Croquet! Opened in July of 2007, Woodlawn's court (85 feet by 105 feet) is Maine's only, and largest, tournament sized croquet court and is open from May until October. Although six-wicket croquet is the primary game played at Woodlawn other games, such as nine-wicket and golf croquet, are also played. Croquet is not new to Woodlawn. Evidence, including a small court (perhaps the oldest court in Maine) and an interesting old croquet set, suggests that there existed an early tradition of playing croquet at Woodlawn. The new court keeps within that tradition, while complementing the public park role of the estate. The Woodlawn Croquet Committee offers a variety of programs for both seasoned and new players. Beginning on May 10, free introductory lessons will be given at the court on the 2nd and fourth Saturday of each month, from 10 AM to 12:30 PM. Newcomers are also invited to visit the court every Tuesday, starting May 13, from 3-5 PM to learn about the croquet program first hand and to play golf croquet under the guidance of Woodlawn croquet members for a fee of $5.00. Advance lessons and croquet puzzlers are also available. And don’t miss the Maine / New Hampshire 6 Wicket Tournament from June 26- 29. Contact the museum for more information or email Perry Mattson, Chair of Woodlawn Croquet, at croquet@woodlawnmuseum.org. Regular play on the court is available to the public through a yearly fee or on a play per game basis. All needed equipment to play will be at the court. United Sates Croquet Association Members are welcomed. Click here for the 2008 Croquet Schedule. Click here for the 2008 Croquet Membership Form. ![]() |
